Milestones

Every place we go in life, we hit milestones.

According to Merriam-Webster, milestone means: "a significant point in development".

Whether it's a wedding, a baby, our first home, our 50th wedding anniversary, learning to ride a bike, our first loose tooth, our first date, our first grandchild, or our first time stubbing our toe... we're always in-between another milestone.

While on Tuesday night's drive home {after a fun evening shopping with Annemarie}, I watched my car as it turned over to 50,000 miles.

Yes, I'm the kind of person that gets giddy seeing stuff like that... and takes pictures of it, while continuing to safely drive of course!

50,000.

That's a lot of miles.

We bought it around 20,000. So in just a few short years, this car has taken me 30,000 miles. Granted, many of those have been to and from work. But my car is not just about getting to and from work. It's about so much more.

I got to thinking about all the special places my car has taken me. The sights, the sounds, the tears I've shed within its doors, the laughter that has come through there, the groups of people smashed into it {not always legally, ahem....}, the music that's been jammed to, the sermons that have been listened to, the prayers cried out to God, the anger that's been vented to God in the midst of some really difficult circumstances, the sin and repentance that I've poured out to God there, and everything else I've experienced within the confines of that vehicle.

This car and I have done some serious bonding. Oh if that car could talk....

This was right after we bought it. Remind me to never have hair that short again. Mech.
It's made me think about all those things we take for granted. A working vehicle. A house to live in even if we feel like it's falling apart all around us. Food stuffed in the cupboards. Clean water every day. Fresh milk whenever we want.

And all the stuff.

Stuff that so many around the world might be really, really wishing and longing for all the while we're complaining that there's a drip in the faucet, the floor creaks, the check engine light is on again, or that a bug landed in our clean water.

We have lots of blessings. Lots of milestones to celebrate.

But what about those who don't? Let's celebrate, but while remembering those who have no one to celebrate with. Let's praise God for our blessings, and pray for & give to those less fortunate.

Milestones. They are special and worth soaking in, but not at the expense of forgetting what's behind us and how far we've come or how far we have yet to go.

50,000.

May I have another 50,000 miles ahead with this great car, and 50,000 miles of life ahead of me!

I get giddy about the car mileage milestones, too! I have pictures in my phone of various milestone. My husband and I really enjoy seeing the milestone changes, but most other people think that we're absolutely nuts for our giddy-ness.

Here's to MANY more milestones and memories met and remembered.
