Photo Contest

Moving away from the insanity I'm feeling lately about my Fibromyalgia, I needed a new creative outlet, and was so excited to have found this! I heard about the contests they have on my friend Georgia's blog. Thanks G!

I'm entering this contest as a beginner because I'm new to the love of photography, I hardly know anything about my camera, I have no idea what Aperture means, and I don't have any editing software (except the very basic stuff that comes with the computer, which hardly does anything) despite my desire to.

This week's contest is for messy face pictures. Here's one I took of my 2 year old niece Cayley while we were at lunch at Quizno's one day over Christmas.

Probably not the messiest face you've ever seen, but it certainly was hysterical. She had little orange dustings from the Doritos all over the place. You can't totally see all the orange smudges on her face, but trust me they're there! And who couldn't love that adorable little face?!?!

I'm working on getting closer up faster and the timing of things, but my photography is still definitely beginner!

Be sure to check out all the other beautiful messy faces by going over to www.iheartfaces.com now!

Welcome to the fun! (And I love your attitude presented in your blog header. Even without an illness, it is a poignant reminder to trust. Thank you!) Your niece sure is a cutie! If I may offer some suggestions: it looks like the camera focused on the car out the door instead of your niece. You might need to play around with the focal points within your camera or the face sensing capabilities, depending upon yur camera. Also, it looks like the flash fired, which will make those messy orange crumbs harder to see as the light is SO bright. The restaurant was probably amply light from the large windows to try without flash. Good luck!

Welcome to the contest. YOu're going to have fun! She is a cutie. It's great that you're trying to improve as a photographer. Julie had great tips above and she's an amazing talent (check out her site for inspiration). I started really concentrating on taking good pictures about 3 months ago, and the best advice I've gotten is to turn off the flash and get out of auto mode. It was hard at first and all my pictures sucked, but I have grown by leaps and bounds since then. Try it for a week - it will surprise you!

Welcome! Your little niece is so adorable. She looks like Pebbles. Working without the flash really makes a difference, but every time I try it, the picture turns out blurry instead. Maybe you'll have better luck than me.
